ACCOMMODATIONS AND FACILITIES


Q: Where is Camp RYLA?

A: Camp RYLA is hosted at Mission Springs in Scotts Valley, CA 

Q: What will the lodgings at camp look like?

A: Mission Springs provides dorm-style living. Most rooms will have three to four campers per room, with some accommodating up to six or eight. Most rooms have an attached bathroom for all in the room to share, with some lodging having detached bathrooms shared by the whole floor or cabin. Bed linens and towels will be provided. Click here to view more information on the lodging provided by Mission Springs. Campers will be housed in Laurel, Wellender, Hemlock, Oak & Fir (Mission Woods), Pine, and Cedar.

Q: I have a special diet and/or food allergies, can accommodations be made?

A: Our meals typically  have enough variety of food choices that most people can find food they can eat. If your camper has a special diet, please indicate this. A special diet is not considered a food preference, but when an individual is unable to consume a particular food because of a medical or other special dietary condition. This is commonly a food allergy. Our venue, Mission Springs, can currently accommodate those that are vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian and dairy free, -OR- gluten free and dairy free. Mission Springs is also a nut-free facility. Those with different restrictions than those outlined above can bring food with them to camp. There is a storage area with a refrigerator available for those who medically require dietary accommodations not offered by the facility. Q: Can I come late or leave early?

A: No, all campers are required to attend the full camp session. Late arrivals and early departures cannot be accommodated.

Q: Can campers be dropped off and/or picked up from Mission Springs directly.

A: No, campers must be dropped off and picked up from one of our bus locations. If you need to change your bus location, login to CampSite, navigate to the Enrollment Questions form and select your preferred location.

Q: Who supervises the campers?

A: Camp RYLA will be supervised on site by two Rotarian Co-Directors both of whom have been involved in RYLA for over two decades. They are assisted by volunteer Rotarian and non-Rotarian staff members, many of whom have been involved with RYLA for many years. All of the RYLA staff is overseen by the 5170 RYLA Support Staff which serves at the behest of the past, present and future District Governors from Districts 5170.

All RYLA staff onsite at camp are required to be LiveScanned and to complete District 5170’s Youth Protection Training, which includes special training on Mandated Reporting.

Q: Are medical services available?

A: There will be a Wellness Coordinator on duty 24 hours a day during camp. This coordinator is CPR and First Aid certified and will provide assistance with medications and first aid as needed. 

Emergency medical services are also available and will be provided when needed. Eastern Plumas District Hospital with a 24 hour emergency room is located in Portola, about 2.5 miles away.

Q: Can I bring medication with me to camp?

A: You can bring any needed PRESCRIPTION medication with you to camp. All medication must be brought in the original container with the camper’s name, medication name, strength, and dosage instructions on the medication label. All over the counter medications such as Tylenol and Motrin should be left at home. Camp will provide any needed over the counter medication, as needed. 



PROGRAMMING AND ACTIVITIES

Q:  Will there be wifi at camp?

A: While there is wifi at camp, cell and wifi reception is unreliable and not available throughout the entire campus.

Q: I have an online class to attend and/or do work for during camp., 

A: Campers will not be excused from programming to attend an online class and/or do work. There is very limited program-free time. Campers are welcome to use this time in activities or work of their choosing.

Q: What kind of activities are offered at camp? What does a day at camp look like?

A: Campers can expect a variety of activities from interactive leadership modules and guided community building with peers to exciting relay races or participating in an all inclusive round of team volleyball or foosball. RYLA has something for everyone.

Each day campers will attend leadership modules in the morning and an assigned workshop activity in the afternoon. Evening programming will consist of campwide presentations by our leadership staff, camper workshop presentations, or campwide community building activities, depending on the day. Many of our activities take place in outdoor locations, so please pack clothes suited for both sunny days and cold evenings. Q: When will I find out what workshop I am in?

A: All campers will find out their assigned workshop on the first day of camp, with the exception of those in RYLA Summer Jam who will be notified the week or two prior to camp so that any needed instruments can be brought.

REGISTERING FOR RYLA

Q: I’m interested in applying for Camp RYLA, how do I register?

A: If you were recruited and/or contacted by Rotary, please contact your local Rotarian for registration information. If you found Camp RYLA through another entity, please click here to apply.

Q: I need to complete my application, how do I log back into CampSite?

A: Go to https://ryla5170.campmanagement.com/p/campers/login_m.php

    Your username is the email that was submitted for Parent/Guardian 1.

Q: How do I know if my enrollment is complete and I have been accepted to camp?

A: Once you complete your application, you will receive a confirmation email from CampSite. If you do not receive a confirmation email, you have not successfully submitted your application. If your application is found to be incomplete after submission, you will receive an email outlining what is missing. A welcome to camp email from RYLA 5170’s Support Staff will be sent out to everyone who has successfully enrolled after the application period has closed and no later than June 1st welcoming you to camp.

Q: I’m having trouble completing my application in CampSite and/or I have questions about the application, who do I contact?

Q: I uploaded a photo and completed all required forms, yet I’ve been informed my registration is incomplete. What do I need to do?

A: You most likely forgot to click the “Submit Enrollment” button at the end of the application. 

Q: What should I pack for camp?
